“We congratulate Professor Henrik Elvang Jensen, who, through his outstanding contributions as a veterinarian and researcher, has provided significant research to improve animal welfare in the Nordic countries and internationally,” says David Haak, CEO of Agria.
Together with SLU, the Agria Research Fund established the Grand Research Prize in Veterinary Medicine last year. After a lengthy nomination process, it was now time to celebrate the first laureate and highlight achievements in Nordic veterinary medicine.
"I hope that this award will inspire more young veterinary students to pursue research and follow in my footsteps. Today is an outstanding and truly unforgettable day, with a wonderful reception from everyone present," said Professor Henrik Elvang Jensen at the award ceremony following his lecture.
The Agria Research Fund was founded as early as 1938 and has since financed hundreds of research projects benefiting dogs, cats, horses, and farm animals. The new award is unique as it is given for already accomplished exceptional achievements in veterinary medical research.
“It is a milestone for us to award the prize for research results for the very first time. The idea is to further motivate research in veterinary medicine, but also to highlight groundbreaking contributions to improved animal health that are significant for society at large,” says David Haak.
Henrik Elvang Jensen, Danish veterinarian and professor of veterinary pathology at the University of Copenhagen, is honored for his pioneering contributions in veterinary pathology and forensic veterinary science. According to the jury’s citation, Elvang Jensen’s work “has set new standards for how animal suffering can be assessed and prevented, which has had a major impact on animal welfare and veterinary medicine in the Nordic countries and internationally.”
