JTI Scandinavia is looking for a Legal Manager

Would you like to take on a broad, business-oriented legal role with significant responsibility from day one? As Legal Manager at JTI Scandinavia, you will advise the business on commercial, regulatory, corporate and compliance matters in a highly international environment, working across the Nordic markets.
What we can offer you
JTI is an international group with approximately 46,000 employees worldwide. JTI Scandinavia has its headquarters in Stockholm and around 250 employees across Scandinavia, primarily in Sweden and Denmark. The Stockholm office is a genuinely international workplace, with close to 30 nationalities represented among approximately 80 colleagues. English is a central working language and the role involves regular collaboration with stakeholders across countries and time zones.
This is an opportunity to join a broad and established legal function where you will get close business exposure and the chance to work across several Nordic jurisdictions. JTI actively invests in talent development and international mobility, including opportunities for short-term assignments and future roles elsewhere in the group.
The local Legal function is small, giving you broad exposure to the business and considerable responsibility from the start. You will report to the Legal Director Scandinavia and work as part of JTI’s wider international Legal organisation.
Your future challenge
As Legal Manager, you will provide practical and commercially minded legal advice on various matters affecting JTI’s business. The role combines day-to-day legal support with regulatory work, corporate governance, compliance, disputes and project management. You are expected to make independent legal assessments, understand the commercial context and know when specialist expertise should be brought in.
In this role, you will among other things:
- provide legal advice on commercial, regulatory and corporate matters, including contracts and day-to-day business support
- monitor legal and regulatory developments across the Nordic markets
- advise on tobacco- and nicotine-specific regulation, including permits, reporting and product requirements
- coordinate investigations, disputes and authority matters with external legal counsel
- draft, review and negotiate contracts and other legal documents
- manage corporate governance, company-law formalities and Corporate Secretary matters
- support compliance matters such as data protection, whistleblowing and competition law
- contribute to internal projects, training and stakeholder dialogue across the international organisation.
To succeed in this role
We are looking for a legal professional with a Swedish Master of Laws degree (LL.M.). You have a few years of relevant, qualified legal experience from a law firm, an in-house legal function and/or the public sector. Previous experience from a regulated industry is an advantage, while tobacco-specific legal experience is not required.
To thrive and succeed in the role, we believe that you:
- are self-driven, pragmatic and comfortable taking ownership and moving matters forward
- have sound legal judgement and commercial awareness, being able to translate legal requirements into practical advice
- enjoy working as a broad legal generalist and can move confidently between strategic and hands-on matters
- can build trust with stakeholders at different levels and with different backgrounds
- are patient, structured and culturally aware – comfortabley navigating a large international organisation with established processes and multiple decision-makers
- are fluent in English and comfortable using it as a working language from day one; fluency in a Scandinavian language is also required.
- are willing to travel to some extent and as required.
